SAFE AND PRECISE RERAILING SYSTEM FOR KIWIRAIL

by - 25 August 2011

When Kiwirail in Wellington wanted a state-of-the-art rerailing system, HTC supplied a system to lift and traverse even the heaviest rail vehicle.

The newly-developed double-acting traversing system allows rail vehicles (locomotives, carriages, wagons etc) to be moved in both directions from a nearby control desk. The low weight of its individual components makes the system mobile and ready for fast use. It can be used to rerail vehicles, upright overturned vehicles or to pull apart wedged-together vehicles.

HTC's National Product and Training Manager, Shane Quigley, spent time at Kiwirail's depot in Lower Hutt to familiarise staff with the new system - seen for the first time in New Zealand.

HTC supplied a hydraulic motor pump to generate pressure, control desk as a control console for the jacks, telescopic jacks for lifting, long lifting jacks and accessories for uprighting overturned rail vehicles, DUO traversing unit, connection hoses, and mechanical accessories such as rerailing bridges, roller carriages and distance bars.
