HTC Supports Ashburton Bridge Repair

Over a recent weekend in August, the HTC team joined the effort to repair the Ashburton River Bridge. The essential State Highway 1 bridge was damaged in May when heavy downpours across the region created a one-in-100 year flood event. A pier on the bridge slumped during the flood and critical repair work involved jacking the bridge back to level and rebuilding sections of the bridge structure.

To lift multiple points of the bridge safely and simultaneously, the HTC team employed its revolutionary Durapac Synchronised Lifting System. Multiple jacking points were adjusted and monitored from a central, computerised hydraulic control unit. This same technology was used several times in the Christchurch earthquake rebuild, to level bridges and buildings.
